All
Asset Protection Device Sensors are compatible with Universal and
LapTop Asset Protection Devices. Each sensor is used
depending on the asset being protected and the installation.
Installation types fall into two groups - stationary assets and
portable assets. Stationary assets are assets that do not
normally leave the premises while portable assets leave the
premises on a regular basis. Stationary assets almost always
use the Universal Asset Protection Device (UAPD) sensor while
portable assets (like LapTop PCs) use the Standard LapTop Asset
Protection Device (LAPD) sensor or the Asset Protection Device PC
Card sensor. |

The
Asset Protection Device PC Card Sensor is used on any asset that utilizes
the PC Card standard interface - especially LapTop computers. Most
LapTop computers have at least two PC Card slots so one of them can be
used for this sensor. Other assets that utilize this interface
include digital cameras and PalmTop computers. The interface
requires no software and does not effect the asset's operation in any way.
The APD PC Card Sensor is compatible with Universal and LapTop Asset
Protection Devices. The LapTop Asset Protection Device includes a
keyed switch to enable/disable the PC Card Sensor so the LapTop can be
take home. The picture on the right shows a PC Card Sensor connected
to a LAPD. |

The
Universal Asset Protection Device (UAPD) Sensor is used to protect
assets that do not need to be disabled or moved - like printers
and monitors. The sensor cable plugs into a UAPD or LAPD
port and the square sensor attaches to the asset with high
adhesive double-sided tape. If the sensor cable is cut or if
the sensor is removed from the asset an alarm condition is
transmitted by the UAPD or LAPD. The UAPD sensor is usually
programmed to protect the asset 24 hours a day and can only be
disabled by authorized personnel. The picture on the left
shows the UAPD Sensor connected to a UAPD. |

The
Standard LapTop Asset Protection Device (LAPD) Sensor ships
standard with each LAPD. This sensor is similar to the UAPD
Sensor except a splice is made in the cable near the sensor and a
coupler is inserted. The user disables this sensor (using
the LAPD keyed switch) then disconnects the sensor cable at the
coupler. The sensor and its attaching short cable go with
the LapTop or portable asset. The PC Card Sensor is an
upgrade from this sensor. The picture on the right shows a
Standard LAPD Sensor connected to a LAPD (keyed switch not shown). |
